Pianta tokens are blue coins with Don Pianta's face imprinted on them. They are found solely in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and are only usable at the Pianta Parlor, where Mario can win them from the slot machines or minigames. They can be traded for items and badges from Lahla behind the desk. In addition to earning them from minigames, three coins can be exchanged for a single pianta token.

The minigames themselves have pianta tokens scattered throughout their respective stages. In order to turn a profit, however, at least 11 pianta tokens need to be earned, due to the fact that each game costs 10 tokens to play. They can also be earned at slot machines, totaling three methods of obtaining pianta tokens.

To play a slot machine, Mario must deposit one pianta token. If the player matches three of a kind, more tokens will be earned, with said amount differing depending on what was matched. Three Don Piantas give him three tokens; three Stars give him fifteen, and three sevens gives him one-hundred. However, once the prizes are earned, they are not given to the player directly: instead, they are scattered onto the floor and vanish relatively quickly, meaning that they must be collected on the floor.

• The maximum number of pianta tokens that can be collected is 99,999. Nothing occurs if this amount is reached: the Pianta Changer will still allow Mario to deposit coins, however, nothing will be earned.
